Attractive Places in Centre of Nagpur City

Nagpur City Museum

Nagpur City Museum popularly known as Ajab Bangla is situated at Civil Lines of Nagpur, about 1.5kms west of the city. Established in 1863, It is one of the oldest museum in Nagpur with an extensive collection of archaeological artifacts, handcrafts from ancient times. The exhibits in the museum are displayed in six galleries namely art, archaeology, anthropology, geology, industry and natural history. The art gallery has some unique paintings from the Bombay School of Art and the anthropological gallery contains stuffed and preserved figures of birds, reptiles and mammals. The museum also houses a well-stocked library.

Nagpur Central Museum, managed by the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, is open on all days from 10 AM to 5PM except on Mondays and public holidays.

Maharajbagh Zoo

Maharajbagh zoo is the central zoo of Nagpur, India. The zoo is located in the heart of the city and has been built on the garden of the Bhonsle and Maratha rulers of the city. The zoo had come under scrutiny in 2006 for possible closure due to issues concerning animal healthcare but was cleared of all objections raised by CZA in 2007. As the name suggest, Maharajbagh Zoo earlier known as 'Shikar Khana' is an amalgamation of a garden and a zoo. The garden here termed as Maharajbagh has been converted into a botanical garden with a a rich collection of herbs, shrubs, ornamental and aromatic plants, medicinal plants etc.

Sitabuldi Fort

The most prominent landmark of Nagpur and magnificent Sitabuldi Fort is located in the heart of the city, on the twin hills of Sitabuldi. The fort was built by a British Officer in 1857, to commemorate the dedication of the soldiers who lost their lives during the third Anglo-Maratha war known as Battle of Sitabuldi. A trough has been created around the fort for its protection. Inside the fort one can find graves of numerous British soldiers and a cell where Mahatma Gandhi was imprisoned. At present, Sitabuldi fort is the home to the office of the territorial army. The fort opens to the general public only on two national holidays- 26th January - Republic Day and 15th August - Independence Day.

Zero Mile Stone

Zero Mile Stone, located 1kms west from Nagpur city center is a majestic stone used to locate the distance of all the cities of India. It was installed by the British as they considered Nagpur as the center of India and hence identified this point and constructed the Zero Mile Stone.

Kasturchand Park

Kasturchand Park, located about 1 km from the central railway station, is the biggest meeting place in the nagpur city center which can hold thousands of audience at a time. The park is the culminating point of almost all the big processions in the city and the venue for various occasions like trade shows, fairs, convention etc. In the middle of the park, there is a beautifully designed pavilion. Kasturchand Park is best suited for Trade Shows, exhibitions, fairs & expositions etc.

Sitabuldi

Sitabuldi, the main commercial center of Nagpur, located on the 'Variety Square' is a bridge between the east and west Nagpur. The area is occupied with a number of shops with items like cloths,  shoes, electronic and household appliances. Sitabuldi main road is one of the main shopping streets in this area. Some of the major garment shops in this area are Apna Bazaar, Khadi Gram Udyog etc.


Umred Pauni Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary

Umred-Pauni-Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary, about 58 km from Nagpur and 60  km from Bhandara, is spread over Pauni Tahsil of Bhandara district and Umred, Kuhi and Bhivapur Taluka of Nagpur district. This sanctuary has a connection with Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve through the forest along Wainganga river. The sanctuary is home to resident breeding tigers, herds of Gaur, wild dogs and rare animals like flying squirrels, pangolins and honey badgers.

It is bounded roughly by the Wainganga river and the Gose Khurd Dam on the northeast, State Highway 9 and Bhiwapur Town on the south, Umred on the west and a narrow 10 km long range of 600 – 800 m hills to the northwest. It is located 40 km north of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve and 50 km southwest of Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary & 60 km from Nagpur, Maharashtra.
